Get to Know Team TSM: Vaqas Rehman 💬

On the next edition of Get to Know Team TSM, we are shining the spotlight on one of the newer members of the team, Vaqas Rehman.

Vaqas is our Electrical Manager, playing a key role in delivering high-quality electrical and renewable energy solutions while ensuring the highest standards of safety, compliance, and technical excellence across our projects.

We recently caught up with Vaqas to see how he is settling into the role, learn more about his experience within the industry, and find out what he enjoys doing away from work.

Be sure to check out the full interview below. 👇

Can you tell us a little about your background and what led you to a career in this industry?

“I originally completed a BSc in Chemical Engineering, followed by a Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics. I’ve always enjoyed technical problem-solving, calculations and working with systems that require precision and safety.

After university, I chose to move into the electrical industry because it combines hands-on technical work with the analytical thinking I enjoy. I completed my electrical qualifications and worked my way up from apprentice to fully qualified electrician. I have now spent over a decade as a Qualified Supervisor registered with NICEIC.

Electrical work suits me because it’s technical, safety-critical and calculation-driven, exactly the type of work where my engineering and mathematical background adds real value.”

What attracted you to join TSM Group, and what were your first impressions of the business?

“TSM Group is rapidly establishing itself as a strong and competent provider within both the renewable energy and electrical sectors. With my background in engineering, applied mathematics, and over a decade of experience as a Qualified Supervisor and Qualified Electrician, I felt I could bring the technical expertise and leadership needed to support the company’s growth.

Our strength comes from combining solid electrical competency with a forward-thinking approach to renewable technologies, ensuring TSM Group delivers safe, compliant, and high-quality installations across all projects.”

As the Electrical Manager, what are your key responsibilities within the company?

“As Electrical Manager, I am responsible for overseeing all electrical and renewable energy operations within the company. My role focuses on ensuring every installation is carried out safely, compliantly, and to the highest technical standard.

I support the team with design, inspections, testing and certification, while also guiding our engineers and electricians on best practices and regulatory requirements. With over a decade of industry experience, I help maintain quality standards, develop team competency, and drive the growth of our electrical and renewable divisions.”

What advice would you give to someone looking to build a successful career within a similar role?

“My advice to anyone entering this industry is to keep learning and continuously develop both their electrical and operational skills. Ongoing training, dedication, and consistency are essential for maintaining safe, efficient and compliant working practices.

The more you invest in your knowledge and development, the stronger and safer your work will become.”

What qualities do you believe are essential to being an effective Electrical Manager?

“Good communication and a clear understanding of your team’s strengths and areas for development are essential. When you understand how each person works, you can provide better guidance, support their growth and ensure every project is completed safely and to a high standard.”

If you could instantly become an expert at one thing, what would it be?

“Digital media advertising.”

When you’re not at work, how do you like to spend your time?

“I love spending time with my family. If the weather is nice, I’ll take the kids to the beach; they absolutely love it, and it’s one of my favourite ways to unwind.

If I get a bit of time after that, I enjoy relaxing and watching football.”

If you could complete one item on your bucket list in the next year, what would it be?

“I am planning to complete my Design, Erection and Verification (2396) qualification next. It’s the next step I want to take in progressing further into electrical design and more advanced technical work.”

If you could have dinner with a celebrity, past or present, who would it be?

“Paul William Walker IV”

What’s a film or TV series you could watch over and over again?

“I could watch the Jason Bourne films and Fast & Furious 1 and 2 over and over again. They’re classics that never get old.”
