We’re continuing our Employee Spotlight series, and this week, we’re excited to introduce a new addition to the team – John Dixon. We sat down with John to learn more about his journey so far, his goals at TSM, and what he enjoys doing in his spare time.
Can you share a bit about your career journey and how it led you to your current position?
“I have been in the heating industry for 20 years, beginning my career at British Gas, where I spent 11 years installing a wide range of heating systems and boilers.
After leaving British Gas, I launched my own company focused on installing heat pumps and other renewable energy products. In 2024, I joined LG Electronics as a Heating Sales Manager, leading a team of sales and specification engineers to drive the sales of their heat pump range. While it was a valuable experience, I found the role wasn’t quite right for me, the expensive travel took its toll, and I began to look for a new opportunity.
That’s when I found TSM. After meeting with Terry and Tom, I immediately felt the role was much better aligned with my experience and expertise. At TSM, I am the Head of Renewables, managing all “able to pay” clients and supporting site installations in a technical role.”
What drew you to working with TSM, and what stood out to you about the company?
“The reason I took this job was because I saw the potential for what it could become. With the support from management as well, we knew we could achieve great things together.”
Can you walk us through what a typical day looks like for you in your current role?
“Most days involve managing new leads and handling the administrative work associated with installing heat pumps through the MCS scheme. I’m responsible for organising materials and coordinating engineers, while also ensuring that all customers are well-informed and satisfied throughout the process. Additionally, I make sure that TSM complies with all relevant regulations and that all work is completed to the highest standard.”
What do you find to be the most fulfilling thing about your role?
“I enjoy designing low-temperature systems and seeing them perform efficiently, helping customers save on their energy bills while contributing to the journey toward net zero.”
What’s the best piece of advice you have received in your career so far?
“The best piece of advice I’ve received during my time in this industry is to always answer the phone and to make sure I return any missed calls.”
What’s your favourite thing to get up to in your spare time?
“As a father of two young children, I spend as much time with them as possible. I also enjoy being outdoors. Whether I’m playing golf, fishing, or simply relaxing in the garden (often with a beer in my hand).”
If you could master a new skill instantly, what would it be and why?
“If I could master a new skill, it would be cooking. I can throw a meal together, but nothing too impressive, not even for the kids! At the top of my list would be learning how to cook properly on the BBQ.”
What is your biggest pet peeve?
“My biggest pet peeve is laziness. I get frustrated when I have to organise many people, only to be let down or when others do the bare minimum. I’ve always liked things done as quickly as possible and to a high standard.”
