On this edition of Get to Know Team TSM, we are shining the spotlight on one of the valued members of our team, Sophie Rivers.

Sophie is our Renewables Planner at TSM, playing a key role in helping the company continually strive towards more effective, efficient and sustainable renewable energy solutions.

We recently caught up with Sophie to learn more about her role, what her work involves day-to-day, as well as what she enjoys getting up to outside of work.

Be sure to check out the full interview below.

When did you first join TSM, and how has your experience been in the role so far?

“I joined TSM in October last year. I already had experience working in the renewables sector before joining, and my time at TSM has allowed me to build on that knowledge while working in a fast-paced and supportive environment. The role has been busy but rewarding and I’ve enjoyed being part of a team committed to delivering high-quality renewable solutions.”

What does a typical day look like for you as a Renewables Planner at TSM?

“A typical day includes contacting new leads, booking surveys, sending quotations and scheduling installations. I also manage material orders, handle Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) grant applications, prepare handover packs and follow up with customers for reviews once projects are complete. No two days are the same, which keeps the role interesting.”

Which skills or qualities would you say you rely on most in your job?

“Strong organisation, clear communication and the ability to multitask are essential in my role. I also rely on being adaptable and proactive to keep everything running smoothly.”

What’s one key lesson you’ve learned that you would share as advice with others working in, or entering, the renewables sector?

“Be prepared for things to change and stay solution focused. The renewables sector is constantly evolving, so being flexible and willing to learn is essential”

Is there a particular part of your job that gives you the greatest sense of achievement or satisfaction?

“Seeing a job progress from the initial enquiry all the way through to installation and handover is incredibly satisfying, especially knowing it contributes to more sustainable energy solutions.”

Do you have any hobbies outside of work that you pursue actively?

“I enjoy travelling, reading, and taking my dog on long walks – it’s a great way to unwind outside of work.”

What’s a skill you’d love to learn if time were no issue?

“I’d love to learn a new language and improve my Excel skills, as both would be really useful professionally and personally.”

If you could watch a film again for the first time, what would it be and why?

“The Notebook – it’s such a classic and experiencing it for the first time again would feel really special.”

What’s your biggest pet peeve?

“Poor communication, especially when it could easily be avoided.”

Is there anything that is at the top of your bucket list to do this year?

“Travelling more and visiting a few new places is at the top of my list this year.”
